What Longboard Deck is Best For An Electric Skateboard?
Typically, you'll require a Longboard setup. The easiest setups will be larger boards with a longer wheelbase. The reason for that is a longer board around 33" to 40" will provide a much bigger wheelbase which allows for more room for your electric skateboard components. For our Full Electric Skateboard Conversion Kits, we try to make the components as small as we can to allow us to use smaller longboard decks or that way you have a wider selection of decks to choose from. However, at the end of the day if your looking for performance you'll require a bigger battery and bigger motors so our full kits are as small as we'd like while still being a high performance setup. Battery technology hasn't expanded into being ultra small with a ton of power. Although, it's not too bad at all. Our Full Conversion Kits will require a 24-25" Wheelbase. The deck size doesn't matter but longer deck size will typically mean a longer wheelbase. You also want a more rigid and sturdy deck as a flex deck can cause stress onto our battery packs. General Guidelines for a Longboard Deck- 24-25" Wheelbase
- Rigid, Sturdy Deck
What Longboard Trucks Do I Use For An Electric Skateboard?
We have built our motor mounts around the popular Caliber Trucks. Specifically, because they have a D shape truck hanger profile and the specific consistent truck hanger size across the entire hanger. These features allow us to slide a motor mount across majority of the hanger for better placement. The D shape truck profile will allow us clamp a motor mount down without any issues of the motor mount rotating around the truck hanger. Our current motor mounts work specifically for Caliber Trucks and slip on and you simply bolt down the included bolts to secure the motor mount on the truck. We offer a few different Electric Skateboard Motors. Each electric skateboard motor has a purpose depending on what you plan on doing for your setup/board. The Electric Skateboard Motors which we offer would be the following:- 5065 260KV EPower Motor - Best used for a single motor setup. 6S Battery Voltage 22.2v and on flat grounds with small to moderate hills. With a 6S setup and a 16/36 gearing ratio it can reach speeds of up to 24mph top speed.
- 6355 260KV EPower Motor - Best used for a single or dual motor lower voltage setup. 6S Battery Voltage 22.2v best on flat grounds and small to moderate hills. A dual motor setup will increase braking power, traction and reliability (less stress on a single motor).
- 6355 190KV EPower Motor - Best used for a single or dual motor higher voltage setup. 12S Battery Voltage 44.4v is great on flat grounds and by far the best setup for really steep hills frequently such as San Francisco, CA. You are capable of climbing 20-30% inclines back to back without any heat on the motors. A dual motor setup will increase braking power, traction and reliability (less stress on a single motor).
- 6374 190KV EPower Motor - Best used for a single motor higher voltage setup. 12S Battery Voltage 44.4v is great for flat grounds and small to moderate hills. This motor would be able to handle more and steeper hills than a single 5065, 6355 setup. Typically, I recommend this motor if you only plan on a single motor want all the power you can get and have no plans to upgrade in the future to a dual motor setup.
Should I Use A Single Motor or Dual Motor Belt Drive Setup?
There are a few differences why one would choose to run a Single Motor vs a Dual Motor Electric Skateboard.Single Motor DIY Electric Skateboard
What's the best setup for a Single Motor Electric Skateboard on Flat ground climbing 10-15% inclines. Single Motor 5065 260KV Motor with 6S Battery Voltage for a top speed of 24mph. A single motor setup is by far the most affordable and more then adequate for about 95% of riders. Read below why we would recommend a Dual Motor setup. You can always upgrade in the future as well.-
6S Battery - 5065 260KV - 24mph top speed
- Best setup for a budget board.
- Ability to climb 10-15% inclines.
- Most affordable setup if your strictly riding on flat ground.
-
6S Battery - 6355 260KV - 24mph top speed
- Best setup for an up-gradable setup up to 24mph top speed. Upgrade to a Dual Motor in the future.
- Upgraded 6355 260KV motors capable of handling more power, more voltage and more abuse.
- Ability to climb 20-25% inclines.
-
10S/12S Battery - 6355 190KV - 30+mph top speed
- Best setup for a fully up-gradable setup to 30mph top speed. Upgrade to a Dual Motor in the future.
- Upgrade to 6355 190KV motors capable of handling more power, more voltage and more abuse.
- Ability to climb 20-30% inclines.
Dual Motor DIY Electric Skateboard
Why would you purchase a dual motor electric skateboard? There are a few reasons why I also personally recommend a dual motor setup.- Increased traction.
- Increased braking power.
- Increased reliability.
- Less stress on a single motor.
