6S 25.2V 10A Charge-Only Bypass BMS

The TorqueBoards 6S Charge-Only BMS is designed for compatible 6-series lithium battery packs using a bypass discharge configuration.

In a charge-only or bypass setup, the BMS manages the battery during charging and monitors the individual cell groups through the balance-wire connection. The battery’s main discharge current bypasses the BMS and connects directly to the battery output circuit.

This configuration is commonly used in electric skateboards and other high-current DIY electric-vehicle battery packs where the BMS is used for charging protection and balancing rather than carrying the full motor discharge current.

Bypass BMS Configuration

This BMS is intended to be wired as a charge-only BMS.

In this configuration:

  • The charger negative connects through the BMS at P−
  • The battery negative connects to the BMS at B−
  • The main discharge connection bypasses the BMS
  • The vehicle’s discharge current does not pass through the BMS

This allows the battery pack to supply higher discharge current directly to the vehicle while retaining BMS protection during charging.

A bypass BMS does not provide discharge-side overcurrent, short-circuit, or low-voltage cutoff protection for the main vehicle output. Those protections must be handled through proper system design, ESC settings, fusing, monitoring, and safe battery operation.

Important Compatibility Requirements

Before ordering or installation, confirm:

  • 6S battery configuration
  • Correct battery chemistry
  • Correct charger voltage
  • Charging current does not exceed 10A
  • Correct balance-wire connector and sequence
  • Correct P− and B− wiring
  • The main discharge path is designed to bypass the BMS
  • Additional discharge-side protection is provided where required

This BMS should not be used with a battery pack having a different series count.

Installation and Safety

Connect and verify all balance leads before applying charging power. Each balance-wire reading should increase sequentially as measured from battery negative.

Incorrect balance-wire order, reversed polarity, short circuits or connecting the wrong series count may permanently damage the BMS or battery pack.

Before connecting the charger:

  1. Verify every cell-group voltage.
  2. Confirm the total pack voltage.
  3. Confirm the balance-wire sequence.
  4. Verify B− and P− connections.
  5. Check charger polarity and output voltage.
  6. Insulate all exposed conductive areas.
  7. Confirm the main discharge path bypasses the BMS as intended.

Lithium battery packs can cause fire, serious injury or property damage if incorrectly assembled, charged or serviced. Installation should only be performed by someone experienced with battery-pack wiring, balance connections, polarity verification and lithium battery safety.
